For over 25 years we have devoted ourselves to one mission: improving the lives of the most vulnerable children in Bucharest — those living on the streets, in sewers, and in conditions of extreme deprivation.
Our mission at Archway Romania is simple: to improve the quality of life of children living in the streets and sewers of Bucharest, Romania.
Every day, children of every age become orphaned or abandoned due to violence, natural disasters, poverty, or disease. Without the support of a family, the outlook for these children is bleak. Archway Romania steps in to provide what these children lack — stability, care, education, and hope.
Established in 1999, Archway Romania is one of the largest organisations in Bucharest devoted to the care of orphaned and abandoned children. Over 25+ years, we have helped hundreds of children build a foundation for a better future.
Romania’s children face some of the harshest conditions in Europe. The scale of the problem demands urgent, sustained action.
Over 40% of Romania’s population and approximately 49% of Romanian children face risk of poverty or social exclusion (Eurostat).
An estimated 300,000 children in Romania are outside the education system, deprived of their right to learn and develop.
More than 60,000 children are separated from their families, living in state care or on the streets without stability or love.
In Romania, 1 in 5 children faces major deficiencies — no food, hygiene products, medicine, or stable home to survive.
Every program addresses both immediate needs and long-term development — because a child needs more than one thing to thrive.
We provide tablets, internet access, backpacks, notebooks, pens, and pencils to prevent school dropout. Our team also offers preschool, primary, and secondary education counselling to help children stay in school and succeed.
We offer comprehensive services for children from vulnerable families — ensuring they receive medical treatments, can grow up with their families, develop without violence, and enjoy their childhood.
We ensure the most basic needs of every child are met. In Romania, 1 in 5 children face major deficiencies. We step in to fill this critical gap with food, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency relief.
Many street children in Bucharest lack identity documents, which prevents them from accessing education, healthcare, and social services. We help children obtain the documentation they need to access their rights.
Archway Romania was established in 1999 with a single, unwavering mission: to be there for the children that no one else was reaching. In the years following the fall of communism, Romania’s streets became home to thousands of abandoned and orphaned children living in desperate conditions.
From the very beginning, our team has been on the ground — in the streets, in the sewers, in the abandoned buildings — going wherever the children are. We do not wait for them to come to us. We go to them.
Over 25 years, we have grown into one of the largest organisations in Bucharest devoted to street children — but our approach has never changed. Every child we meet is treated with dignity, compassion, and the belief that they deserve a better future.
Your support is what makes this possible. Every donation, large or small, goes directly to the children who need it most. Together, we have already changed hundreds of lives. Together, we will change hundreds more.
Every child treated with dignity and unconditional care.
Annual reports published. Every donation accounted for.
We go where the children are — streets, sewers, buildings.
Root causes addressed. Sustainable futures built.
Your generosity directly impacts children who have no one else to turn to. Together, we can build a better Romania — one child at a time.
