Children Nobody Sees
Every day in Bucharest, children of every age become orphaned or abandoned due to violence, natural disasters, poverty, or disease. Without the support of a family, the outlook for these children is bleak — and they often fall completely through the cracks of society.
According to Eurostat, over 40% of Romania's population and approximately 49% of Romanian children face risk of poverty or social exclusion. An estimated 300,000 children are outside the education system, and more than 60,000 are separated from their families.
In Romania, 1 in 5 children faces major deficiencies. Their parents have lost jobs, lack food, hygiene products, medicine, and stable housing. The pandemic has deepened these inequalities, leaving the most vulnerable children even further behind.
How We Answer the Call
With your support, Archway Romania provides a comprehensive response to child poverty and abandonment in Bucharest.
Street Outreach
Our team goes directly to where the children are — streets, sewers, abandoned buildings, and makeshift shelters across all sectors of Bucharest. We identify the most vulnerable and establish trust.
Immediate Relief
We provide food, clean clothing, blankets, hygiene products, and medical care to children in crisis. We also assist with obtaining identity documents so children can access public services.
Education Access
We equip children with school supplies, online learning tools, and counselling to keep them in school. Our dropout prevention programs have helped hundreds of children stay on the path to a better future.
Family & Community
We work to reintegrate children with their families where possible, providing social support, family counselling, and community services that address the root causes of vulnerability.
Healthcare
We connect children and families with medical treatments they need, offering on-site medical support and referrals to ensure that health is never a barrier to a child's development.
Long-Term Development
Beyond immediate needs, we focus on sustainable change — building skills, confidence, and community connections that give children a real chance at a self-sufficient, fulfilling future.
